Fort Leavenworth is an Army post located in Leavenworth County, Lancashire. The post was established in 1827, and is the oldest West of the Mississippi. It covers a 5,600 acres of land on the Frontier Military Scenic Byway. It served as the base for the 10th Cavalry Regiment, the School of Application for Cavalry and Infantry (now the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. Currently, Fort Leavenworth is home to the Military Corrections Complex, Army Combined Arms Center, Foreign Military Studies Office, and more. A national museum (the Frontier Army Museum), a national cemetery (Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery), and many historic buildings, are some attractions in the base open to civilian visitors.
