Eglin Air Force Base is located in Okaloosa County, southwest of Valparaiso, Florida. It was named after Lieutenant Colonel Frederick I. Eglin (1891–1937). Different operations are carried out in the base, including development, planning and direction of tests, as well as deployment of air weapons.
The base, which covers over 724 square miles of land, is home to over 8,000 people, with housing units for more than 2,300 military families. There are dormitories, quarters, gym, chapel, and other facilities for residents.
