Camp Atterbury is an Indiana National Guard training base. The base is located near Edinburgh, Indiana, and was started in 1941, just before the United States joined World War II. It got into full use in 1942. The camp served for many things, including being used as a prisoner of war camp for German and Italian prisoners. Operations in the camp ran from 1942 to 1946, 1950-1954, then from 1969 till date it has been serving as a National Guard Training Center. The camp which covers over 43,000 acres of land, is home to the Joint Maneuver Training Center, 157th Infantry Brigade, 205th Infantry Brigade and 4th Cavalry Brigade, housing over 45,000 personnel. The base contains different facilities for serving and retired military personnel.
